A pooch named 'Cooch'

Have a plan but don't know where to start? Follow me on an exciting journey..

I've been part of an online community since March 2010 filled with people who are fond of the words 'I can'. This unique community is called PlanBig. It has been a wonderful ride and a great sounding board for my newly hatched plan.

A little about PlanBig from the planners themselves:
Sometimes it can be tough to find a way to make things happen. It might be that you'd like to get people together to make a difference in a local community. It could be that you have an 'idea' but aren't sure of how to get it kick started.

That's what PlanBig is all about. Or rather, that's what you, and thousands of others just like you in communities right across Australia (and the planet) can make it be all about.

Get Involved, get connected, get active

We could call PlanBig 'the next phase in the power of online communities', but really it's just about like-minded people coming together to give each other the support they need to make their dreams reality.

You come up with a plan, create a home for it on PlanBig and then work with PlanBig's community in order to make it a reality, making friends and business opportunities alike. The idea behind it is that everyone helps each other out. This could be by commenting on plans in order to make them more feasible, offering goods, services or a venue that is being requested, or simply by liking/following a plan. For me the most exciting thing is to see that someone else likes my plan and offers encouragement.

So, I present you with 'New Friends From Old'. My trusty little sewing machine and I have had an idea for a long time - to create new lovable friends from old materials in the hope that using recycled and pre-loved materials will encourage parents and children, big kids and little kids alike to reuse the things around them to create new exciting toys.

The little guy pictured above is 'Cooch', a cheeky little black dog with plenty of attitude. He is my first prototype and will be my inspiration for new friends to come.
Watch this space for his friends.

So thanks PlanBig, I'm happy I stumbled upon you and am delighted to be a part of your ever-growing and helpful community.

The Handmade Marketplace

A little gem found its way into my paws at a local book store on Gertrude Street a few days ago. I can quite confidently say this has been one of the most influential books I have ever read. Kari Chapin has packed it full of tips and tricks and savvy business know-hows to help you get on the road to a successful handmade business.
Most importantly, it has renewed my belief in moving in a new direction as it reminded me of one important thing..

I will always be filled with creativity.

No matter what direction I head in, or where I am in the world. Sure, it may have its days of not wanting to get out of bed, it may be a little late to a Monday morning meeting but it is always there, waiting to be fed, loved, nurtured, looked at from a different angle and pushed a little. My creative spark will never die.
We have so many amazing local and international communities offering an ever-flowing well of inspiration and support. I feel very lucky to be a part of it.

What a read. Pick up a copy today.
